Kick Start Arts in partnership with The Department of Illumination is proud to present:

Circles of Joy! ~ A Festival of Joyful Stories Brought to Life

Come out for a day of interactive fun, including; music, dance, installations, puppets, food and more!

This festival is the culmination of a year long storytelling and art making project. 18 artists from across disciplines have collaborated with community members to create art works in response to stories of joy shared in the first phase of the joy project. Take a listen at our Archive of Joy!

This festival is Pay What You Can (recommended $10) in order to continue to support other community-based arts projects. All provincial COVID-19 safety protocols will be in place. If you have any questions, please reach out to us at mandeq@kickstartarts.com.

We can't wait to see you there!

From our our artists and participants:

"The process of creating and telling our stories as part of the Circles of Joy project was truly exquisite. What we accomplished collectively after four short hours together speaks to the ability of the organizers and facilitators to build a safe space for us to work across differences, to listen deeply, share feedback, and take creative risks. I am honoured that one of the artists chose to work with my story and I cannot wait to see what possibilities emerge not only for my story but for all the stories re/presented at the festival in May.

It is extraordinary that I was given the opportunity to experience the gift of Circles of Joy at no cost to myself as a participant. I am grateful for the support, community and creative space to develop and tell my own story. Magnificent!"

Vanessa Russell - Community Participant, Guelph, Ontario

"Being asked to be a part of a festival celebrating the positive emotion of JOY was such a welcome gift. All the negative messaging out there had started to permeate my spirit. I was struggling to witness, let alone experience, joy and I know that others were struggling too. As an artist you feel called to respond. I see this festival as a radical act of compassion - for artist and audience alike - it's a beautiful chance to share, experience, rebalance and restore joy."

- Wendy Anderson - Fibre and Immersive Artist

A Note re COVID:

Due to continued COVID-19 uncertainty, and to avoid disappointment - We HIGHLY RECOMMEND you purchase your tickets online in advance. This is in case we have to restrict numbers for safety reasons. Those who purchase tickets in advance will have priority when entering the event. We will continue to follow all public health policies in place at the time, and ask that anyone attending this event be vaccinated. There are indoor components to the Festival - but most of this event will be outdoors. To protect all vulnerable people in our community, we ask that masks be worn while indoors. Please dress for the weather.

Working together to ensure your safety and comfort!
